The Cabildo of Tenerife announced this Wednesday the launch, by 2024, of on-demand transport in the municipalities of Güímar, Fasnia and Arico, an initiative that is planned to be extended to the rest of the island.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, through a statement, in which it is stated that this new regionalized system will be implemented progressively and will not have established routes.
Likewise, the Cabildo of Tenerife hopes to offer “a more flexible service”, especially during peak hours, established from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and always linking the service with the stops. of buses.
The institution plans to extend the same on-demand transportation system, progressively, to other regions in the north of the island.
The Cabildo of Tenerife details that the cost of the measure, once the service has been awarded, will be borne by the island corporation.
García explained that it is a measure that “is here to stay, it will improve people’s mobility and, in addition, will promote public transport.”
According to the Cabildo of Tenerife, the mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez, has indicated that this is a solution for both the Agache region and its coastline, which will benefit the residents, by being able to take a taxi and travel to different stops. in the municipality and connect with other locations.
And, also according to the insular corporation, the mayor of Arico, Olivia Delgado, has assessed the service as “necessary” and in high demand because it responds to “the reality of the municipality, the dispersion of the neighborhoods and the communication difficulties.”
As for Raquel Díaz Cruz, councilor for Social Services, Seniors and Equality of the Fasnia City Council, the Tierfa Town Council says that she noted that the municipality expects the measure as “may water” and, in that sense, they want it to work for “ the reality” the locality.
