SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Director of Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Fernández, has announced the Order by which the regular inter-island maritime transport line between Los Cristianos and La Estaca is extended for a period of one year.
This maritime route is considered a Public Service Obligation (PSO) since October 15, 2012, under the provisions of article 16 of Decree 9/2009, of January 27, to guarantee the minimum conditions of continuity. frequency and capacity of inter-island maritime communication with El Hierro.
Likewise, María Fernández has highlighted that “this maritime connection between the ports of Los Cristianos and La Estaca addresses the singularities of the island of El Hierro as a consequence of the fragmentation of the Canary Islands territory, which is also aggravated by the cost of the double insularity”.
In this sense, the General Director of Transport has also announced the possibility of working on the drafting of a new document in which the new needs of this service are justified and the reinforcement of this maritime service is assessed, among other issues. with the aim of expanding connections between both islands and, therefore, further guaranteeing the mobility of passengers.
The Los Cristianos-La Estaca line has 12 weekly frequencies – six round trips and six return flights – guaranteeing daily connections between both ports every day, except Saturdays.
