SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, will hold a series of information sessions in 2024 on the public consultation phase of the future modification of Law 4/2017, of July 13 , of the Soil and of the Protected Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands, just as is already being done with the Law on Sustainable Planning of the tourist use of housing.

This was announced by the councilor responsible for the area, Manuel Miranda, in response to a question from socialist deputy Marcos Bergaz in relation to the forecasts for the modification of the Land Law of the Canary Islands, an autonomous community where “the approval of a planning instrument becomes news not only for its content, but for miraculously overcoming all the procedures from a technical and procedural point of view and also the political difficulties.”

In his response, the counselor said he was aware that this law must be rationalized and simplified. For this reason, he stressed that the Ministry wants to be “allies” of the councils and city councils so that, with the consent of the General Directorate of Territorial Planning, the planning can move forward.

Manuel Miranda pointed out that the objective is for it to be a consensual document and assured that at no time will they work behind the backs of the councils, the town councils and the social actors of the Canary Islands, and indicated that the technicians of the Ministry are already analyzing and preparing reports on what cases are being found regarding the processing of the Law.

Likewise, he announced that in 2024 a consultation will be carried out with city councils and councils, in addition to social agents and citizens in general. He pointed out that this last phase will be carried out through a series of conferences that will be held on all the islands and also through online platforms where there is interaction between the Government and the different administrations of the Canary Islands.

Manuel Miranda clarified that the deadlines will be set based on this dialogue and debate, but he wanted to make it clear that his department is going to fight for consensus and to try to ensure that the modification of the Land Law benefits the planning of the town councils.
