SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Medical specialists from the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital have agreed on techniques for the surgical management of common complications of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease.
Likewise, they have tried methods that can reduce the risk of recurrence of intestinal inflammation, as reported by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.
These techniques were announced this Friday at a ‘Walking Together’ conference held to update the management of patients with these pathologies, especially those who present a moderate-severe outbreak and are going to undergo surgery.
In the session, a multidisciplinary meeting was held, with specialists in nutrition, the digestive system, surgeons and other specialists dedicated to the care of these patients.
In this way, all healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of these diseases have been able to learn about new developments and innovations in different aspects related to the pathology. Among the most notable presentations is the training of professionals to provide psychological support to patients during outbreaks of their disease.
Finally, the talks, given by health professionals from the Canary Islands and also from centers in Vigo and Granada, have addressed nutrition before, during and after these operations and the different pharmacological treatments used. In addition, they had the participation of the Association of Patients with Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis.
