SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands and vice president of the regional government, Manuel Domínguez, stated this Friday that the commitment made by Pedro Sánchez with ERC to forgive 15,000 million euros of Catalonia’s debt, in exchange for support for his investiture, raises “concern” of the rest of the autonomous communities, and especially that of the Canary Islands.
“This agreement generates more inequality and makes it clear that the priority of the PSOE is to agree whatever it takes to hold on to power. Forgiving 15,000 million to Catalonia with the money of all Spaniards, of all the Canary Islands, is a new grievance for our islands,” he points out in a note.
In this sense, the leader of the popular parties in the archipelago warned that they are not going to stay “idly in the face of this injustice in terms of financing and debt forgiveness, in the face of a new attempt to turn the inhabitants of these islands into citizens.” second rate, ignoring their rights.
In his opinion, “this agreement generates inequality among all Spaniards and gives free rein to favoritism that will cause grievances both for the Canary Islands and for the rest of Spain, what Catalonia does not pay we will all pay.”
Domínguez has also added that if they invite people to accept 20% of the remission, they will not remain “silent” and will demand that there be “proportionality.”
“It cannot be that, in percentage indices, an attempt is made to compensate everyone in the same way, because 20% of the 70,000 million in Catalonia is not the same as 20% of the 1,200 million in the Canary Islands,” he pointed out.
In this regard, the president of the Canary Islands PP pointed out that, as if it were regional financing, indexes of insularity, population, outermost periphery and fragmented territory will have to be put on the table, “where it is essential to contemplate all these variables in order to then know clearly rigorously what can be the fair amount of debt forgiveness that corresponds” to the islands when compared with autonomous communities such as Catalonia.
