The Cabildo of Tenerife has confirmed an improvement in traffic on the Northern motorway (TF-5) after the diverted traffic on the Guamasa interchange through the secondary roads TF-235 and TF-152. This was revealed during the second meeting between the insular Corporation and the La Laguna City Council, held this Thursday afternoon.

The meeting was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, and the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who was accompanied by the Councilor for Mobility, Cristina Ledesma and the Councilor for Works, Adolfo Cordobés, as well as technicians from both administrations.

After the meeting, Rosa Dávila recalled the objective of the test undertaken in the Guamasa area and indicated that it has not yet been possible to obtain all the data to make a decision on the temporality of the measure whose main objective is to improve mobility in one of the busiest points of traffic on the TF-5.

“We are aware of the damage that is being caused to some residents who accessed the TF-5 more quickly, and we are working to see how fluidity can be improved on both roads, but, on the other hand, the test provides some data hopeful in the TF-5 where there is greater fluidity,” said Dávila. Likewise, the president recalled that “just near Guamasa, the acceleration lane is very short and 600 vehicles enter per hour and they are cutting off an island road such as the TF-5.” In this way, Dávila opted to undertake improvements in secondary roads and encourage the use of public transportation.

For his part, the mayor of La Laguna, Luís Yeray Gutiérrez, thanked the Cabildo of Tenerife for calling the second meeting and stressed the “need to promote necessary works to end that great scar that San Cristóbal de La Laguna has, as it is the TF-5”.

Furthermore, Gutiérrez highlighted that in the absence of knowing the data and the decision made by the Cabildo of Tenerife in relation to the intervention in the Guamasa interchange, “our predisposition is total and absolute and we have said that if the La Laguna city council, “You have to collaborate, you will also do so, and the solidarity that they are asking from the municipality has to come from short-term actions, and the president of the Cabildo has extended her hand to execute those much-needed works that have an impact on mobility.”

🤝 We have held a new meeting with the La Laguna City Council to assess the data from the test of the closure of accesses on the TF-5 as it passes through Guamasa. Thank the mayor and the technicians for attending a new meeting that aims to improve the mobility of… pic.twitter.com/7DclUlb78E
