A dozen environmental and social groups have called this Sunday, at 11:00 a.m. in Plaza Weyler in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, for a demonstration to demand a Ecological State Pact in the Canary Islands that guarantees the sustainability of the islands and the future of the inhabitants.
The organizers rebel against the “political inaction” in the face of the climate and ecological crisis and warn that the archipelago is in a “limited situation” of climate emergency in which the population is risking “survival.”
“The data show that temperatures are reaching historic peaks and that species are beginning to be lost due to the deterioration of ecosystems,” includes a note from the Scientific Rebelion collective.
Furthermore, it warns of the “impact” generated by the current “unsustainable” urban and tourism exploitation model, with projects such as Cuna del Alma (Adeje), the Motor Circuit, the expansion of airports or the port of Fonsalía.
The demonstration also aims to demand the implementation of Climate Binding Citizen Assemblies, among other measures.
