SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife has launched a campaign under the motto ‘A lot to get wet’ that seeks to promote the consumption of local fishing products and sustainable fishing.

The counselor of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, explained in the presentation press conference that “this initiative has been developed hand in hand with the fishermen” and announced that its central axis is the launch of a collective brand, ‘Artisanal Fishing’, under which it is intended to “promote the sustainable and conscious consumption of local fishing products, but also sustainable fishing, since the consumer of these products will have the guarantee of regulation and control in the methods and resources used in fishing activity.”

González also highlighted that “artisanal fishing on the island plays a very important role, since it is an essential traditional trade from an economic point of view, but also with a profound social, environmental and ecological impact.”

During the campaign presentation event, the counselor was accompanied by technicians from the Cabildo and by the president of the Provincial Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds, Víctor Juan Díaz Castro, who highlighted “the importance of distinguishing local fish from foreign fish.” , since that implies adding value to the product.

The campaign aims to improve knowledge of the properties and benefits of consuming local fishing products, the Canarian biodiversity and the quality of the product according to the fishing method, in addition to energizing and preserving the cultural heritage of Tenerife, highlighting artisanal fishing. , collects a note from the Cabildo.

One of the initiatives included in this campaign consists of the promotion of fishing products, through the delivery of workshops, in the farmers’ markets of the municipalities of Santa Cruz, Arona, Los Silos, Tacoronte and Granadilla.

On the other hand, the ‘Know your Brotherhood’ initiative will be launched, which will bring the activity of fishing closer to children in educational centers where there are fishing brotherhoods, “making known the daily reality of the life of a fishermen, the gear they use, the most caught fishing products, in addition to offering them a tasting of local fishing products.

In addition, visits will be made to the ten brotherhoods of Tenerife.
