SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

A cayuco with more than 200 migrants of sub-Saharan origin arrived today, Monday, at the port of Los Cristianos, in Tenerife, after traveling the Canary Islands route after leaving somewhere on the African coast. Two of the occupants died during the journey and a third died as soon as they arrived at port, all of them adults.

Specifically, a total of 210 people were traveling on the boat: 151 men, 19 women and 37 possible minors, and 12 referrals have been made to health centers for different pathologies, as official sources from the Emergency Coordination Center have informed Europa Press. Security (Cecoes) 1-1-2.

The rescue operation began around 7:00 a.m., when the Civil Guard reported a suspicious echo about 9.5 miles from Punta Rasca, so the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Tenerife mobilized the sea guard ‘Calíope’, who sighted the barge and proceeded to escort it to the port of Los Cristianos.

The cayuco arrived at port around 11:00 a.m. and there its occupants were assisted by the medical team made up of personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and volunteers from the Red Cross, who provided hygiene kits, clothing, footwear, blankets and food.

Since last Saturday, including this boat, a total of 653 migrants have arrived in the Canary Islands, four of them deceased. In addition, up to 38 people have had to be taken to health centers, 9 of them with a serious prognosis.
