SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candelaria Delgado, announced this Friday in the Parliament of the Canary Islands that the objective is to reach 7,500 new dependency applications by the end of the year.

In a question in a parliamentary committee, he commented that the dependency system on the islands has already recorded 5,830 new requests for recognition of dependency, while in the whole of 2022 there were 4,915.

He has indicated that the first objective of his department in this Legislature has been to reduce dependency waiting lists in the Canary Islands.

“To achieve this, we have implemented a series of measures aimed at streamlining the recording of requests for recognition of the dependency situation after reinforcing staff and promoting recognition of the degree of dependency and the Individual Attention Program (PIA),” he clarified. .

In his speech, Delgado stated that the increase in personnel of the assessment team will allow an increase of 400 files per month compared to previous periods.

In addition, he assured that the department has already reactivated the grade reviews of people in a situation of dependency, according to a note from the Ministry.

In this regard, he explained that 949 grade reviews have been carried out, “thus serving people who had already been evaluated years ago and whose situation had worsened significantly, without them receiving more aid or benefits to address the new reality.”

These are some of the measures promoted by the Ministry of Social Welfare, among which are also the publication of the regulations for the approval of the decree, already in public consultation, which will regulate the procedure for the recognition of the situation of dependency, which will allow “significantly reducing waiting lists until reaching the six-month period established by law for the recognition of the rights of dependent people.”

In this matter, he indicated that a configuration will be established in one phase of the procedure for the recognition of the degree of dependency and for the approval of the Individualized Care Plan (PIA), “a unification that will contribute to reducing bureaucracy considerably and, in definitively, that the rights become effective in a short period of time”.
