SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Deputy Minister of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Antonio Olivera, has admitted this Thursday that there is a “slight rebound” in infections by coronavirus in recent days –91 this day – so he has asked the population not to relax .

In a press conference to give an account of the Governing Council agreements, he said that the Executive is “closely following” the evolution of the pandemic, so he understands that “it is not necessary to relax completely” the restrictions despite the fact that all islands are on alert level 1.

Thus, he has said that Covid-19 “is a real threat” despite the fact that “much progress has been made” in vaccination, since there are still people who have not been vaccinated and the virus finds “spaces to sneak in” so that “it is not yet the time to relax the restrictions completely.”

Olivera has pointed out that “the Canary Islands are playing a lot” in the coming weeks because the start of the high tourist season is approaching and the reserve figures are “very positive” so he has remarked that “this effort” to control the disease ” it deserves to be maintained. “

In addition, he commented that the rate of vaccination “has been stagnating”, especially in the 40-49 year age segment, so he has once again emphasized the importance of all people in the target population being vaccinated, to “safeguard” their own health but also that of others.

To highlight the importance of vaccination, he has said that in the last two weeks 100% of people admitted to the ICU with coronavirus did not have a complete vaccination schedule.

As of this Thursday, there are already 1,667,904 people who have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, which represents 85.06 percent of the target population over 12 years of age and 1,637,886 people have received the guideline. complete vaccination, 83.53 percent of the target population.
