SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Civil Guard agents have arrested a 58-year-old individual, a resident of the island of El Hierro, as the alleged perpetrator of an alleged hate crime. The detainee has already been brought to justice.
This person published several audios in a group on a well-known instant messaging application through which he directly promoted and incited hatred towards the immigrant group.
The messages were sent to a group that had almost 500 members, which led to the viralization of content that incited violence and hatred.
The investigation began after the acting Civil Guard agents learned that these audios were circulating through different groups of instant messaging applications.
The specific training on hate and discrimination of the members of the Hate Crime Response Team (REDO) who participated in the investigation has allowed it to be guided, having accredited in their report the existence of polarization indicators that reveal a racist motivation.
With this type of action, the Civil Guard tries to prevent the effects of hate speech through social networks, promoting an early response to this type of behavior, avoiding or minimizing the massive dissemination of illegal content that promotes violence, hatred and discrimination.
The investigation has been promoted by the Deputy Prosecutor against Hate and Discrimination Crimes of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This operation is part of the Civil Guard’s Action Plan against Hate crimes and conduct that violates legal regulations on Discrimination.
