The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared the wave alert situation starting at 03:00 this Sunday on the coast of The Palm and on the north and west coast of the rest of the islandswhere waves of 4 and 6 meters are expected, reported this Saturday in a statement.
Specifically, it details that the alert affects the north and west coast of the islands of The iron, La Gomera, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzaroteas well as the northern coast of Gran Canaria.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), swells are mainly expected, caused by the passage of a storm north of Canary Islandswhich will give rise to a combined northwest sea that will mainly affect the windward coasts, open to the north and west, of all the islands of the archipelago, says the General Directorate of Emergencies.
The height of the waves could reach between 4 and 6 meters in these orientations and cause damage to infrastructure and bathers.indicates the note.
Faced with this situation, the Government of the Canary Islands advises the population to take extreme precautions on the coast and to put into practice self-protection recommendations to avoid risky situations and accidents.
Therefore, he emphasizes that it is important avoid standing on docks and breakwaters and do not risk taking images near where the waves break.
Likewise, it is insisted that bathing is prohibited on red flag beaches and that access to the sea in areas affected by strong waves should always be avoided.
In the event of an emergency situation, 1-1-2 should be alerted immediately.
Aemet notices
Given this situation, Aemet has established the following notices. Thus, the risk will be yellow throughout the Archipelago except in La Palma, where it will be orange (significant risk), while The coastal areas of the south of Tenerife and Gran Canaria will be left out of the warning.
For its part, on La Palma, the risk will begin at 03:00 this Sunday; in La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife and at 06:00 hours; and Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura at 9:00 a.m., remaining in force until the end of the day.
