The Canarian Government guarantees the three major road works in Tenerife

The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguezguaranteed that in this mandate the works of three essential projects will be completed to improve mobility in Tenerife: the section of the Insular Ring between Santiago del Teide and El Tanque, the third lane from San Isidro to Playa de The Americas and the burying of the Southern Highway from Playa de Las Américas to Fañabé.

In a parliamentary committee, Pablo Rodríguez reiterated the commitment of the regional Executive to comply with road projects in Tenerife, prioritizing those works that offer an agile and efficient response to reduce delays.

Rodríguez explained that the closure of the Island Ring in the Southwest, which includes the Erjos tunnel, exceeds 52% completion; He assured that the third lane of the TF-1 between San Isidro and Las Américas “They have a completion rate of 72%, despite the significant delays they have suffered”; and that it was recently awarded the drafting of the project and the execution of increasing the capacity of the TF-1 between Playa de Las Américas and Fañabé.

«We are aware of the need to prioritize certain actions regarding roads and comply with the Road Agreement, which ends in 2027, but it is important that we consider new mobility alternatives that provide solutions in the short and medium term, to alleviate the problems of congestion suffered by the main roads of Tenerife,” argued the counselor in his appearance at the Public Works commission.

Pablo Rodríguez affirmed that the Government he led Angel Victor Torres «He did not leave any project in progress in this matter to be able to tender and award. We have not had evidence of that large library of projects that they boast about, despite the historical problems that this Island has and the long delays that are generated, especially during peak hours. Something that did not happen at the end of my previous stage as a counselor, since I was in charge of awarding both the Las Chafiras link and the closure of the Insular Ring,” he defended.

The counselor went further and defended that “There are still 700 million euros of the Highway Agreement to be committed, so over the next few years we want to focus our efforts on pressing ahead with the projects that are still in the process of being drafted or processed”. Along these lines, he said “reiterate our commitment to prioritizing the Northern Highway and expanding its capacity.”

The deputy spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Nira Fierro, criticized the list of “priority” works agreed upon by the Department of Public Works and the Council. Fierro recalled that she works such as building a third lane on the TF-5 and TF-1, finalize the Chafiras-Oroteanda link and finish the Erjos tunnel, which the flower pact left ready for its execution. This mandate began with 13 of the 16 projects of the Highway Agreement for Tenerife “awarded or in execution of works.”

The socialist deputy asked the regional councilor to “take advantage of everything that we left him prepared in the previous legislature and, as we already told him, do not do anything extraordinary, work on what has been started and make this Island continue in the progress that has been made and not in the recoil”.
