TENERIFE TRAM | The increasingly common gesture on the Tram that could cost you a 400 euro fine

He Tenerife tram It is experiencing its best moment in terms of passenger numbers. The number of users exceeded 20 million, a figure that shatters the annual record when there are still four months left until the end of the year. Before this year, the maximum was reached in 2019 with 15.5 million. If the pace of 2023 is maintained, it may end up with a number greater than the 28 million of passengers, almost double the 2019 record. The free service is, without a doubt, the factor that has determined this absolute record of passengers.

This increase has also caused complaints from some users, who think that measures should be taken to improve the frequency of vehicles to avoid the saturation suffered by trams at peak times of the day.

One tram every four and a half minutes on line 1

From Monday to Friday, the tram service begins at 6:00 a.m. and in general, Line 1 will provide service every 4 and a half minutes during the periods of greatest demand of the day, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

After this hour, lThe trams will pass with a frequency of 6, 12 and 15 minutes, depending on the time zone and until 12 at night.

A gesture that is increasingly seen

Beyond the use of the tram, there is a gesture that is becoming more common every day around the stops. More and more people are wandering around the roads with their pets so that they can do their business. Dog owners take advantage of grassy areas for their dogs to walk, sniff and relieve their sphincters. This practice, increasingly common, entails great danger for both the person and the animal, since both are located in an area where trams pass.

A fine that could reach 400 euros

It is true that there is no section in the regulations that governs the safety and sanctions of Metro Ligero de Tenerife that requires walking with the dog near the tracks, but article 90 of said document states that actions “that may involve deterioration or cause dirt on the trains or facilities or, in general, that harm the interests of the railway or the exploiting companies”.

These violations carry a fine up to 400 euros for the person who walks with their dog through the green areas of the Tenerife Tram.
