SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Tenerife has participated for the first time in The Spanish Travel Experience, the conference organized by Turespaña in India at the beginning of October, attended by 20 Spanish tourism companies who have had the opportunity to show their qualities as a tourist destination before nearly 340 tour operators and agents. of travel of the cities of Bombay (traditional name of Mumbai), New Delhi and Bangalore.

The event aims to explore the market possibilities for the commercialization of the country’s tourism product, through meetings with travel agents and tour operators of that country. The event is organized by Turespaña, a public organization with the aim of supporting the promotion of tourist activity in Spain.

The vice president and advisor of Tourism of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Lope Afonso, pointed out that this event “gives us the opportunity to study new market niches in a country that has the largest film industry in the world. In this sense, Tenerife brings together all the attractions to attract projects and investments from India, among others, for the audiovisual industry”.

The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, stressed the relevance of the Island’s attendance at the event, since “it opens the doors to the study of new possible opportunities in an emerging country, which has more than 1,407 million people “, according to the latest data from the United Nations. Furthermore, Melwani pointed out that “more than half of the Indian travelers who visit Spain do so for leisure, followed by business and MICE trips. In this sense, our Island offers spaces for holding events that are suitable for Indians. “They are ideal for celebrating your important occasions.”

The growing interest among these travelers towards international destinations and the great demand accumulated in recent years favors reservations from a visitor who is increasingly aware of the importance of sustainable tourism,” as reflected in studies of tourism markets that emit Turespaña, “Tenerife being one of the destinations most committed to the SDGs, having almost half of the occupied territory protected, or the cleanest sky in Europe.”

The Spanish Travel Experience program, which has brought together retail agents, including OTAs (online travel agencies), as well as MICE planners, focused on the market that travels for seminars, talks or other mass events, such as congresses. or for business tourism, it has been based on speed dating with which to show the destination to potential people.

CONNECTIVITY WITH THE COUNTRY

Although Tenerife does not have direct connectivity with India, passengers from this country arrive on the Island through indirect connections with other airports. The arrival of a total of 3,788 passengers originating in India is estimated for this year 2023, which represents a thousand more than the 2,799 of the previous year, according to the analysis of the Tenerife Tourism Research department.

35.4% of passengers make a stopover, while 62.3% must make two stopovers during their journey. Finally, 2.3% make three stops before arriving in Tenerife.

By airport of origin, departures from Bombay are the ones with the highest traffic, with an estimate of 1,817 passengers originating in this city and final destination Tenerife this year, compared to 1,331 arriving last year.
