Interurban Transport Tenerife (Titsa), company of Councilincorporates into the service starting today 25 new drivers, after the training period that lasted for a month. The instruction has consisted of acquiring knowledge of the lines en route, managing the best customer service, knowing the type of vehicles and payment methods, as well as the prevention of occupational risks, among other aspects. The counselor of Mobility, Eulalia García; together with the manager of Titsa, Raquel Martínez, they delivered the diplomas that accredit the training. They also welcomed the new workers and explained to them that they have an important commitment to the population of Tenerife, given the importance that mobility has for the inhabitants of the Island.

The hiring of new drivers, to which 67 more will be added before the end of this year, will allow us to reinforce those lines with the greatest passenger demand, the most saturated at times of maximum influx in both the northern and southern areas of the city. island. These new drivers have already passed the mandatory medical examinations and now the training process.

Fleet renewal

The insular Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, explained that this is a measure that will allow the lines of the public transport company to be reinforced “to which is added the renewal of the fleet of vehicles currently in service.” Precisely, the contracting of the new drivers, to which 67 will be added between now and December, comes after the approval of the multi-year expenditure in favor of Titsa to finance the purchase of 247 buses for an amount of 88,261,500 euros. that 70% are hybrids, will arrive between 2024 and 2025 to renew the fleet that is more than 10 years old and replace existing vehicles. rentin (rent).

Another measure implemented this month is free public transport, both by bus and tram, for those travelers who validate a total of 10 trips. Until now, the minimum cancellations were 15, so this initiative makes this requirement more flexible so that more users can use public transport for free. The tickets entitling to this free ticket will continue to be the Canary Islands Resident Bonus, Youth Pass, Senior Pass and Pass for People with Disabilities. The Tenerife Cabildo will assume the full cost of this measure with its own funds.

I have noticed over the last few months how many routes have increased in patronage. The main line from La Caleta to the Costa Selencio is worth a mention. The service is becoming unreliable due the passenger increase. I am sure the frequency will increase at times to every 15 minutes. For some reason the Playa Pariso bus is constanly late and a number of journeys are showing 800 on the indicator which means they are more than 15 minutes late and dropping off only. Extra time should be allowed for the route. The 418 to Valle San Lorenzo is another of those routes that does not have enough running time. The new service that runs between La Caleta and San Isidro is prone the serious delays. A complete rethink is needed if the company wants this service to continue. On the subject of San Isidro the 408 from Granadilla to El Medano is always overloaded and running times are not accepable. Lets hope in the coming weeks all these issues will be resolved.
