SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Starting this Thursday, the Museum of Nature and Archeology (MUNA) will host the start of a new edition of the Jazz and Nature Photography Festival, Naturajazz, which celebrates its tenth anniversary with a lineup featuring international jazz virtuoso artists, which is added to the screening of the documentary ‘Collison’, awarded the Environment Award for being the film that best represented an environmental problem and for being the one that most moved people to take action.
The Minister of Culture and Museums of Tenerife, José Carlos Acha, together with the technician of Museums of Tenerife and coordinator of the Naturajazz Festival, Néstor Yanes, explained the details of the programming planned for this month.
José Carlos Acha celebrated the roots of this festival, which each year manages to break records, both in the number of participants in the photography contest and in the number of people attending the concerts: “This festival has earned its place on the international scene , positioning itself as an annual event of reference in the world of jazz and nature, with musical proposals that come from Italy, Cuba, Barcelona, France, the Canary Islands and from New Orleans, the cradle of jazz.
For his part, Néstor Yanes highlighted the ten years that Naturajazz has been combining the best of jazz music and photography, placing special emphasis on the good reception this edition has had, where the number of participant requests has doubled.
After the presentation of the Festival, the artists Gino Marcelli and Elíseo Lloreda offered a small sample of what the public will find in the first and next concert on Thursday, October 12.
The photographs selected in the #Naturajazz photography contest will be projected at the MUNA, while attendees will be able to enjoy the rhythms of jazz in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, led by renowned artists such as Jesse Davis, one of the stars highlights of contemporary jazz, coming directly from New Orleans.
In the photographic aspect, attendees will be able to enjoy the 12 projects selected from among the 272 received, from 25 countries. The musical aspect of the festival will combine renowned Canarian jazz artists such as Eliseo Lloreda or Polo Ortí with international artists such as the Brazilian Thiago Spirito Santo or the American Jesse Davis. The concert series will take place from October 12 to 27, from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and are free until the planned capacity is reached.
NOVELTY
This edition brings a notable novelty, since in addition to the six concerts that will take place mostly on Thursdays and Fridays of the month, on October 20, the documentary ‘Collison’ will be screened, which premiered at the 20th International Film Festival Oceanic in San Francisco in 2023, where he received the Environment Award.
This report shows how a global increase in maritime traffic is threatening our oceans, its inhabitants and the planet, focusing on deadly ship collisions with whales, a threat that is endangering their existence. The documentary, which will be screened from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., is free until full capacity is reached.
The duo made up of pianist Gino Marcelli and guitarist Eliseo Lloreda will be in charge of breaking the ice of the festival this Thursday, October 12, with an elegant format, in which the melodies are an excuse for improvisation, predominating above all a good conversation between two friends.
On Friday the 13th it will be the turn of the violinist Élia Bastida, who together with Josep Traver and Joan Chamorro, will offer the best of the jazz violin that comes from Barcelona.
On Thursday, October 19, the public will be able to enjoy all the light that comes from the saxophone of Luis Cuan and his LC Proyecto, which rescues the Latin jazz genre to merge it with the most contemporary with great versatility, emotionally conquering the viewer.
On Saturday, October 21, it is time to enjoy the best of Brazilian rhythms and swing from the artists Thiago Espirito Santo and Marcell Powell.
On October 26, Polo Ortí presents a new trio format called WOK made up of Wheatley, Ortí and Kéry. This Canarian pianist and composer has performed various concerts with various groups on the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria with great success in the reception of the public, even selling out tickets.
Finally, on October 27, the festival will close with a star guest who comes directly from the cradle of jazz to delight the public: alto saxophonist Jesse Davis (New Orleans, 1965). He is one of the main stars of contemporary jazz. Influenced by Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley and Sonny Stitt, Davis brings impeccable technique and a natural feel for the blues to each of his performances. His music has been described as neobop but, as he says: “All I want to do is play beautiful music.”
