At the meeting, Mena stressed that on Tuesday aid amounting to 2,000 euros per license began to be paid and that their objective is to “inject liquidity into one of the sectors most affected by the decline in tourism.” In total, and at the moment, 200 grants have been approved, which continue to be processed until all applications are resolved. The total item amounts to 501,000 euros.
This year, in addition, to try to reach a greater number of workers, the bases of the aid were modified so that taxi drivers who are retired, but who support a salaried person, could access them. The 501,000 euros allocated to this sector are added to another 1.6 million euros that will go to the self-employed, SMEs and micro-SMEs, whose payment is a matter of days, in addition to other lines that reach 2.5 million euros with the objective to inject liquidity into the business fabric of Arona.
In addition to this announcement, the Councilor for the Mobility area explained that the City Council is working on modifying the regulatory ordinance with different objectives, including reducing and equalizing the power required of the municipality’s taxi vehicles to make it similar to the rest.
José Julián Mena explained that since the beginning of the crisis «I have stressed over and over again the same idea: we will go as far as possible to help the business fabric of Arona to get out of it, injecting liquidity, exonerating and reducing rates and taxes or postponing your payment. “Only in 2021 we are going to dedicate 2.5 million euros in direct aid to the different sectors, including more than 501,000 euros to transport and taxi,” he added.
For his part, Francisco Marichal indicated that “we are working to launch a participatory process, hand in hand with the sector, whose objective is to carry out a new ordinance for the future, which includes important demands, such as the modification and reduction of horsepower or other technical aspects”.
