SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, ruled out this Tuesday the construction of the port of Fonsalía, in Guía de Isora (Tenerife), an option defended in recent days by the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez (PP).

“It is not a project that we are going to promote,” he said in response to a question from NC-BC in the control session of the Plenary of Parliament, in which he made it clear that neither his Ministry nor Puertos Canarios manages any project in that sense.

Rodríguez has stressed that the Parliament of the Canary Islands “said no” in October 2021 and that “is the position of the Government”, although he has said that “we will have to sit down” to find a solution to maritime connectivity between Tenerife and the ‘ green islands’ since the port of Los Cristianos is “inefficient”.

“The alternative is not Fonsalía and we must all look for it,” he added.

Esther González (NC-BC) has shown her joy at the Government’s position against this “big shot” and “major project” that the PP has put back on the table despite the fact that it was an issue “settled” by Parliament a year ago. Couple of years.

Along these lines, he has indicated that it is an “impossible and unnecessary” project and that “it is not justified” from the economic, social or environmental point of view since it is an example of “developmental policy” that goes against the declarations of a climate emergency. and energetic.

González has pointed out that Fonsaslía “is not the way to solve congestion or connectivity to the ‘green islands’ and has defended that “there are more economical and feasible alternatives” such as strengthening the industrial port of Granadilla and that “it has been an announced failure and now it can contribute to solving” the problem of Los Cristianos.

“I hope CC doesn’t turn around and change his mind,” he said.
