The Cabildo of Tenerife considers several reactivations of the forest fire stabilized

The Cabildo of Tenerife has concentrated this Saturday the work of extinguishing the Forest fire that affects the north of the island in the Santa Úrsula and La Orotava highlands, in which several reactivations have occurred in the Pino Alto area that were stabilized quickly.

The extinction operation has been made up of 90 ground troops including forestry brigades from the Cabildo, BRIF La Palma, EIRIF of the Government of the Canary Islands and Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium and eight helicopters, reports the Island Council.

The high temperatures, which have exceeded 34 degrees, as well as the wind – with gusts close to 40 km/h – have been the main difficulty in carrying out the work.

During the night, a surveillance and control operation will be maintained in the main areas where the reactivations have occurred.

The Cabildo asks the residents of the areas in which the extinguishing means are working to, as far as possible, avoid unnecessary travel so that the roads are available so that the extinguishing and emergency vehicles can act safely.

Grade 1 measures remain activated for the prevention of forest fires, taking into account the meteorological circumstances and the alert declaration decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands on the island of Tenerife.

Specifically, it is prohibited to make fires outdoors, whether barbecues, bonfires or gas stoves; The use of any type of machinery or tool that can project sparks (brush cutters, welding equipment or cutting radials) is suspended and the use of any pyrotechnic material in risk areas is prohibited.

The Cabildo recommends not accessing or remaining in the forest areas of the island for the duration of the alert and taking extreme precautions throughout the island territory with any activity that could generate fires.
