VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), Oct. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo of El Hierro, Alpidio Armas, has demanded that the Canarian Health Service (SCS), a body dependent on the Ministry of Health responsible for managing health resources, establish a specific device for the health care of immigrants.
According to the insular Corporation, this request especially focuses on the most complicated and decisive moments such as assistance at the foot of the dock.
“We have verified how in the moments of activation of the health means upon the arrival of a ship to the port of La Restinga, whether day or night, the health team dependent on the El Pinar Health Center, doctor, ATS and area ambulance, leaving the population of both this town and La Restinga without coverage in the event of any health emergency that occurs,” he said.
For Armas, there is another “very worrying” situation. “Which is that in the event that the severity of the assistance requires the mobilization of the only medicalized ambulance that El Hierro has,” he explained, “we put our own health service in check in the event of any other traffic accident or incident.” serious condition that requires this means of basic life support”.
All of this has led him to demand that as long as this humanitarian drama persists, the SCS establishes a new and exclusive emergency device, closest to the point of arrival of the immigrant boats to respond promptly, self-sufficiently and effectively to the migratory phenomenon.
“And not having to undermine our own island health system, or even put people’s safety in check due to lack of health means available when needed,” he added.
Furthermore, Armas made reference to the fact that thanks to voluntary and supportive actions by medical and auxiliary personnel, these types of deficiencies are being reduced, “but we cannot allow ourselves or settle for the fact that it is only the solidarity action and overexertion of these professionals that solve a larger health deficit”.
The island president referred to verifiable events such as what occurred today in the massive transfer of 555 migrants to Tenerife, all of the elderly who arrived in El Hierro in recent days, “a health care device was not even proposed by Health extra to alleviate any eventuality that could occur at the foot of the dock in the port of La Estaca”.
