The extinction efforts of the Forest fire of Tenerife They developed during the night of this Friday without relevant incidents despite the strong gusts of wind in the upper area of the municipalities of Santa Úrsula and La Orotava. For now, the affected area continues to be about 60 hectares, with 3,200 people evacuated and one home damaged by the fire.
The night has been “calm,” sources from the emergency services have told EFE, who have recalled that 94 ground troops, including forestry brigades and the Military Emergency Unit, have worked to contain the fire.
During the morning, the nine aerial means that already worked this Thursday are expected to join, as well as the ground operation, made up of 120 troops.
Also at 10:00 a.m. the meeting of the steering committee for monitoring the fire is scheduled, which will decide, among other aspects, on the situation of the 3,200 people who remain evacuated, mainly from the La Corujera neighborhood, in Santa Úrsula, and Pino Alto, in La Orotava.
So far there are no personal injuries but a home has burned in Santa Úrsula.
The fire, which affects the upper area of the municipalities of Santa Úrsula and La Orotava, is a reactivation of the forest fire that began on August 15 in the Arafo mountains, advanced uncontrolled for almost a month and devastated more than 14,000 hectares. in 12 municipalities on the island. September 11 was considered under control, but the work to refresh the terrain has not stopped and reactivations have been common since then. However, the high temperatures and lack of humidity meant that in the last few hours there were up to three reactivations within the perimeter of the fire.
The island of Tenerife is on alert for high temperatures and under a yellow warning (medium risk) from the State Meteorological Agency. In addition, the island has broken its own temperature record for the month of October, with 39 degrees in Arona, the south of the island.
