SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 2 (EUROPA PRESS

Tenerife will host for the second consecutive year the world final of the World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) – one of the largest corporate golf tournaments in the world. The test, which commemorates its thirtieth edition in 2023, will bring together some 250 participants and guests from more than 25 countries from October 2 to 6. The event brings with it the celebration, in parallel, of the Sports Legends Cup, a competition that during those same days will bring together relevant national and international sports figures around golf.

The vice president and advisor of Tourism, Lope Afonso, pointed out that Tenerife “is prepared to compete in the tourism segment. And it has a magnificent infrastructure and eight golf courses, which are internationally recognized. We are an ideal destination for the practice of this sport. It is a paradise for lovers of the greens. We are committed to quality and, for this reason, golf will continue to be a traveling companion that I predict will be present in our promotion for a long time.” Afonso added that the Island has “an extraordinary, first-class hotel offering, as well as a wide range of services dedicated to this sport.”

Along these lines, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, Dimple Melwani, added that the event “is an excellent international promotion tool due to various factors. On the one hand, the media impact of the tournament in national and international media. It makes it possible to strengthen ties and alliances between the foreign companies that participate and our local companies, as a result of these synergies future MICE meetings can be generated on the Island, but above all it is a great opportunity to publicize the exquisite complementary offer of Tenerife in more than 25 countries, by combining social and cultural activities, as well as visits and excursions that will allow attendees to see first-hand the unique natural spaces, the exquisite gastronomy, the charm of our municipalities and our first-class accommodation facility, a complete complementary offer that “It adapts perfectly to this golf tourist profile, and as a whole, it contributes to reinforcing Tenerife’s position as one of the best golf destinations in the world.”

For his part, the director of the WCGC, George Young, expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Tenerife will once again host the final of the tournament. “We want to celebrate our 30th anniversary in a place as magnificent as Tenerife with this event. The Island has conveniently innovated its tourist offer. It is a safe destination, with good infrastructure and with many direct flights to many places around the world. We are delighted to contribute our grain of sand”.

The final of this tournament represents the culmination on the Island of some qualifying events that have been held in different countries. In its 30 years of history, the World Corporate Golf Challenge has been consolidating itself as the reference golf tournament for companies, which is corroborated by the million golfers from more than fifty countries who have taken part in it in these three decades. .

SPORTS LEGENDS CUP

Together with the World Corporate Golf Challenge, the Sports Legends Cup, which will take place at Abama Golf, will attract figures recognized by the public to the island during the same days, which has a positive influence on the promotion of the destination in an event that enhances especially its playful nature.

Athletes, VIP business guests and media representatives from around the world will participate in this tournament parallel to the World Final of the World Corporate Golf Challenge. Over the years, the teams have been captained by Ryder Cup legends such as Tony Jacklin CBE, Manuel Piñero, Ronan Rafferty and Eddie Polland; tennis player Francisco ‘Pato’ Clavet; the Portuguese international footballers Luis Figo and the goalkeeper Ricardo Pereira; the Welshman Mark Hughes, the former Madridistas Carlos Santillana, Uli Stielike and Isidoro San José; or the Brazilian Antonio Careca.
