SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Youth and Training area, and Abama Hotels have presented today, Monday, the exhibition ‘Abama Gallery by Merkarte’, an initiative that will be launched this Wednesday and which aims to make visible, promote and empower the young creatives of the island. The participants in this first edition are the Lithuanian artist Rima Ciplyte; visual artist Gloria Brito de Heer; the plastic artist Sofía de Tomás Ascanio; and the sculptor Borgia Bangull.

The event was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila; the Minister of Youth and Training, Serafín Mesa; and the operations director of Abama Resort Tenerife, Jorge Monje.

Rosa Dávila indicated that it is “a commitment to quality, style and cultural sustainability that seeks to bring young art, the work of emerging local artists to the community of owners and guests and to tourists.” “We have a powerful sector like tourism and we want to link it with the talent and creativity of our young people, who have an opportunity to show their works and start their professional careers,” she added.

Serafín Mesa indicated that it is “a good opportunity for youth to exhibit their work and make themselves known, but also for them to transmit their knowledge because the artists in the exhibitions will carry out workshops with different themes.” Likewise, he announced that they are already working on new lines to facilitate the commercialization of the works and in the coming months we will be able to announce new initiatives on the occasion of Merkarte’s twentieth anniversary.

For his part, Jorge Monje thanked the collaboration with the Cabildo and the work of the artists and said he was “excited” because he sees “talent, passion and creativity.” Our company is open to the community with this type of initiatives that unite culture, youth and tourism,” he added. In that sense, Abama Gallery is a recently created space in Plaza Abama that is designed to fluidly integrate the connection of Abama Resort Tenerife with the world of art, both as a space aimed at local Canarian artists, and in the future, as an offer to national and international artists.

The initiative launched by the Cabildo and Abama Hotels is part of the agreement signed between both entities that contemplates the celebration of six editions of Merkarte with a four-month rotation of artists. In each edition there will be workshops taught by the artists with themes such as marine watercolor, botany, creative ceramics, traditional pottery, collage and oil portrait, among others.

Merkarte is an educational, artistic and social program organized by the Cabildo that will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024 and whose objective is to make visible, promote and empower young creative people on the island, promoting their professionalization and their incorporation into the labor market. Thus, it offers a program of training, exhibition and socio-labor accompaniment activities, in its commitment to youth and local talent in collaboration with the tourism industry and other private actors.

The Merkarte Tourism and Young Talent initiative tries to encourage employment and self-employment of young creators in tourism companies and their environment, generating demands and synergies. On the other hand, it makes it easier for the island’s economic engine to count on and incorporate the creativity of our local talent, beauty and sustainability as an element of qualification and differentiation.

The Cabildo aims, through Merkarte, to favor and seek professional alternatives for young creators on the island of Tenerife. The project is proposed as a platform for the professionalization of artists from different disciplines and their relationship with the Canary Islands tourism industry, among other demanders of its goods and services.

ARTISTS PARTICIPATING IN THE ABAMA GALLERY BY MERKARTE EXHIBITION

Rima Ciplyte is a Lithuanian illustrator/painter/artist who has resided in San Cristóbal de la Laguna, Tenerife, since 2011. In her paintings and illustrations she works mostly with the human figure, hidden symbolism, expressing feelings through the use of space, colors and the postures of the characters, using traditional techniques, such as oil or acrylic painting and also digital illustration. The recognizable themes in her work encompass mixtures of cultural and traditional symbolism with modernism, pop culture, fashion and a certain surrealism and absurdism.

Her work does not end with painting and digital illustration, as an artist, Rima also expresses her curiosity by investigating different media such as murals, ceramics and sewing, producing unique pieces, which often end up incorporated into her illustrations and paintings. Her artistic career is always transforming and growing, seeking new forms and opportunities. INSTAGRAM: @rima_ciplyte

Gloria Brito de Heer is a Canarian visual artist, born in 1992 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Her work focuses on the study of the body as a means of expression and emotional conduit through pictorial techniques used mainly on paper and Chinese ink.

He has participated in different group exhibitions held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Guía de Isora, Puerto de la Cruz and in the Merkarte Program for Young Emerging Artists for five consecutive years.

From a contemporary positioning, it generates a discourse that is built around internal notes. His works are created in both detailed and expressionist ways, focusing on the study of the body as a means of expression and emotional conduit. The artist aims, above all, to walk towards the complexity of the intimate. INSTAGRAM: @gdeheer

Sofía de Tomás Ascanio is a plastic artist who has lived surrounded by nature, lucky enough to live in a mountain area. She also, due to her love of surfing, spends a lot of time in the sea, which has led her to value the place where she lives and to deal with the characteristic nature of the Islands in her works.

His artistic work focuses on the representation of water, its dynamism and how submerged bodies adapt to that liquid composition, creating a dance of movements and colors typical of the sea. On the other hand, simultaneously the line of botany and natural landscapes arouses great interest and admiration in her, leading her to represent all types of palm trees and vegetation in the area. Borgia Bangull is a native of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The figure and form are part of one’s own imagination, which may be more related to abstract or dreamlike ideas. As his own description, he chooses two paths of action and dimensional representation. The first is based on a blurring of the form, creating a doubt in the observer who considers what he is seeing, and what the message is trying to be given, where there is a greater tendency to treat surfaces, lights and shadows. , which are what tell us the reality of the object.

In the second line, we see a more concrete image that is related to figures that at some point in history have been represented, now mixed and redefined, to reach an end divergent from the ideas on which they are based. The dreamlike visions of these pieces emanate their own sentimental nuances.

All of this is related or exchanged according to the language of representation, speaking of the same dialogue, a conversation that connects with the observer, which attracts him towards a feeling, an individual message and a common concept. INSTAGRAM: @borgia_bangull.
