This is the smallest municipality in the Canary Islands that has the largest swimming pool in the Archipelago

Cross port, in Tenerife, the smallest municipality of Canary Islands with scarcely 8.9 square kilometers in areahas the honor of being considered the place where the tourist industry began in the Archipelago. Its pleasant climate and the tranquility that characterizes it attracted, at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, numerous researchers and select groups of European high society. This flowering turned this Tenerife town into a first-class cultural center, hosting illustrious travelers and writers such as William Wilde, Alexander von Humboldt and Sabin Berthelot.

Nowadays, Puerto de la Cruz has become one of the most outstanding tourist destinations in the Canary Islands. One of its main attractions is the impressive Lago Martiáneza complex designed by the renowned Lanzarote artist Cesar Manrique.

A 15,000 square meter swimming pool

Lago Martiánez occupies around 100,000 square meters and consists of a central artificial lake that connects to a series of seaside pools, gardens, terraces and restaurants. The central lake, which gives its name to the place, is a circular pool of approximately 15,000 square meters with five islands inside, four of which are solarium areas. The largest central island is home to lush gardens, a restaurant and the Andromeda Room, a party room that is located below sea level. In addition, the complex has another 15,000 square meters dedicated to solarium areas with gardens that present a wide variety of endemic and subtropical plants.

The design of the complex is characterized by the predominance of white in the palisades that surround the enclosurecontrasting with volcanic style decorative elements.

One of the notable characteristics of Lago Martiánez is that both the central lake and the other pools They are filled with seawater through a complex system of pumps, which allows the pools to be filled in record time. Besides, one of the complex’s swimming pools is heated, which guarantees a pleasant bath all year round. The resort’s location also offers stunning views of the majestic Teide.
