Excess fluorine keeps La Guancha with a total restriction on water consumption for the entire population, who should not use it for drinking or cooking food. In the case of Icod de los Vinos It is also valid for residents of all ages in the centers of La Florida, Cueva del Viento, Lomo Las Lajas, La Patita and Los Piquetes. In the case of The tank it only affects the upper midlands nucleus of San José de los Llanos.

The restriction is maintained for children under 8 years of age in Erjos and Ruigómez, in El Tanque; the old town, San Felipe, Campino and San Marcos, in Icod de los Vinos, and in most of San Juan de la Rambla: el casco, La Vera, Lomo Guanche, Las Rosas, San José, Los Quevedos, El Rosario and Fuente del Bardo. In addition, there are other restrictions due to “various breaches in the water supply facilities” that affect the entire population of Ruigómez, in El Tanque, and the residents in the surroundings of Cueva del Viento, Penichet, Santa Bárbara, Cruz del Camino and Las Hayas Recreational Park, in the town of Icod de los Vinos.

The prohibition to use water from the public network for drinking or cooking will be maintained in La Caleta de Interián for at least 15 days

This week the restrictions have been added to the medianías of Garachico and the coastal town of La Caleta de Interián, in Los Silos. The Garachico City Council has punctually restricted the water supply in La Montañeta, San Juan del Reparo and Genovés, due to the actions carried out in the Brackish Water Desalination Station (EDAS) Altos de Icod, which supplies the head tank of The Montañeta. The local government (CC) does not know for now how long this setback will last, which has forced to establish supply cuts during the night so that the deposit can recover adequate levels.

The Aand Los Silos town hall also announced, through a side of the mayor, Macarena Fuentes (CC), the restriction on water consumption in the coastal neighborhood of La Caleta, due to the urgent repair and waterproofing of the only basin in the municipal reservoir that supplies water to this population center. These restrictions are expected to last “approximately 15 days.” Tap water cannot be used to drink, cook or prepare food in the Casa Amarilla urbanization; Exterior and Interián avenues, and in the Silent streets of La Marina, José Dorta Pérez, El Norte, La Luna, La Luz, El Sol, San Andrés, Los Silos, Plaza San Andrés, Avelina, El Rosario, Las Almejas, Miramar , San Clemente, La Escopeta, Los Pescadores, Miraflores, San Ramón, La Ola, San Vicente, San Juan, La Farola and El Barco.

“They can’t leave us alone”

The mayor of Icod de los Vinos, Francis González (CC), is clear that the Cabildo de Tenerife must support the municipalities in the enormous challenge of having adequate drinking water and wastewater sanitation networks: «To the city councils cannot leave us alone. We make every effort to achieve this, but we have to be helped, “he acknowledges. The nationalist president hopes that the municipalities in the northwest of Tenerife can soon have “all the necessary information and data” to send the Cabildo a concrete proposal regarding access to surplus water from other regions. “We want to put all the verified data on the table and propose the best possible system to have enough water of the best quality,” he highlights. The Icodean mayor considers that it is necessary to insist on calling for “a responsible use of water”, after the increase in consumption that has occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, “which worsens on days of high temperatures.”
