The two beaches of El Médano reopened to swimming, closed this Wednesday due to fecal contamination



This Thursday, the Granadilla de Abona City Council opened the El Médano beach (central beach) and the Leocadio Machado beach after the results of the water quality analyzes confirmed that it is suitable for bathing. as the enterococcus indices were below the permitted limits in both parts of the coast.

This Wednesday Bathing was prohibited and the red flag was raised after it was detected in the analyzes that an indicator of fecal bacteria enterococci exceeded the maximum allowable level. The municipal council explains that this measure was taken to guarantee the safety of bathers, pending the results known this Thursday.

The City Council has assured that Granadilla de Abona is “one of the few municipalities in the Canary Islands that carries out analyzes twice a week”, taking samples from a total of ten beaches, which guarantees “exhaustive knowledge of the quality of the coastal water”. The beaches covered by this service are: Cuevas del Trigo, Ensenada Pelada, La Jaquita, El Cabezo, Playa Chica, central beach of El Médano, Leocadio Machado, La Tejita, El Chinchorro and Playa Grande de Los Abrigos.
