He Santiago del Teide City Council will not be responsible for the return of more than 65,000 euros that was charged to a group of elderly people in the municipality for a announced trip as part of municipal activities and that was never carried out.

That is, at least, the conclusion of a meeting that the mayor, Emilio Navarro, held with those affected, who total 95 people that they paid 690 euros each. The situation is somewhat serious, since the trip had the appearance of being supported by the corporation and, however, and despite having been paid for, neither was it made nor was reimbursement made to the injured parties.

All of this, therefore, could even have criminal relevance in the event that those affected went to court to recover the money.

This newspaper has tried to obtain the municipal version on several occasions without success, since the efforts are known only from what the City Council itself has published on its social networks. The opacity around this issue even affects the opposition.

Sources from the Canarian Coalition yesterday explained their surprise at the fact that, as a party with representation in the corporation, it has the right to access and consult the municipal files to verify their content and whether or not a service was contracted with public money. .

In their oversight work, in fact, their councilors have legal support. However, to date, they have not been able to learn about the efforts made by the City Council for this trip, as sources assured this newspaper.

It was the nationalists who made the situation known, which occurred at the beginning of the month, after the activity had been disseminated through municipal social networks.

CC announced that those 95 seniors had been left without a trip on Saturday, September 9, when they were at the Tenerife Norte-Los Rodeos airport, where they had been transferred to fly to the so-called Costa Azahar. Councilors Fidel Montesdeoca and Ariana Trujillo reported all of this.

Although the City Council preferred not to make statements at first, it later issued a statement in which it explained that the cancellation of the trip occurred while the elderly were traveling to the airport and that it was due to the fact that the organizing agency had not paid “the financial income necessary in concepts such as hotel, excursions and transportation”, in addition to the fact that the supplier “was in critical condition in a hospital, after making an attempt on his own life.”

Fortunately, however, the agency’s manager was present at the meeting, as well as the first deputy mayor, Ibraim Forte. The mayor demanded that the company return the debt incurred as soon as possible.
