SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candelaria Delgado, has called on the Socialist Party to support an acceleration of the processing of the Minimum Living Income files because “it is only received on the 4th .2% of the Canarian population that is below the poverty line when the State average is almost double.”

This was stated in a parliamentary session during an appearance at the request of the Canary Socialist Group to explain the aspects included in the latest Social Services Index, corresponding to 2022, published by the Association of Directors and Managers in Social Services.

During her speech, the representative of the regional Executive pointed out that if in the autonomous community “we did not have to help almost alone with the Canarian Citizenship Income, we would have more funds to be able to improve the indicators of this report.”

Candelaria Delgado pointed out that it is logical that this index values the improvement of the Canary Islands in terms of Social Services very positively “because the truth is that in recent years the funds and personnel for these policies have increased and, logically, this increase has been translated into the improvement of the indicators”.

However, he insisted that “we cannot rest on our laurels for having obtained a 5.09, because the report continues to be very critical of the provision of these services and we still have a lot to improve in aspects such as personnel, because on the islands There is one social services professional for every 3,241 inhabitants, while the state average is one professional for every 1,651 inhabitants, or in the review of degrees, elements that do not always appear in this type of indices, but are fundamental for the canaries and the canaries”.

“We want to turn around the social services of the Islands,” said Candelaria Delgado. “We want the deadlines to be met, the mechanisms that exist to work so that vulnerable people can have the necessary funds to prevent the risk of poverty, alleviate situations of social exclusion, guarantee the development of a dignified life and promote full inclusion in society. Ultimately, we want to achieve the basic objective of enforcing the laws,” he added.

Along these lines, he explained a series of measures that his department has implemented in recent days to improve care for people in a situation of dependency and reduce waiting lists, “a battery of tools that will speed up access to the system of dependency in the Archipelago,” he said.
