SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mariano Hernández Zapata, guaranteed this Tuesday that his department will resume the processing file for the tourist development of ‘Cuna del Alma’ after the “zero courage” of the previous Executive.

“We will not put ourselves in profile, we will be scrupulous with legality,” he said in response to a question from NC in the control session of the Plenary of Parliament in which he stressed that a “rigorous study” will be carried out that addresses all the species that are in the area to detect them and “monitor”.

The counselor has questioned the “ignorance” of the case by Deputy Yone Caraballo and has defended the “clear position” of the Government in “defense of biodiversity” and guaranteeing “legal security” for all those affected.

Along these lines, he has said that nothing is going to “distract” them from making decisions and continuing with the process given that the previous Government “left everything halfway” because on May 11 they finished the file and it seems that they “let it be postponed” for the proximity of the elections.

“He did the ostrich,” he noted, emphasizing that the file will be reopened “out of responsibility.”

Caraballo (NC) has pointed out that the model of counting tourists and occupying territory “is unsustainable” and the Government “can see it coming” when what needs to be done is “advance” in sustainability, decarbonization and heritage conservation.

He has said that “it seems incredible” that in 2023 a project with more than 420 villas, 430,000 square meters and 3,600 beds will be processed and in an area with a “rich” biodiversity of endemic species and archaeological sites.

He highlighted the “bravery” of the previous Executive for paralyzing the project in the face of the “imminent threat” of environmental destruction, especially for the sad viperina, which “cannot be transplanted.”

He also recalled that the TSJC has maintained the stoppage and has expressed surprise that the Ministry that has to “ensure” the protection of the environment wants to resume the file.
