SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Thursday, the Cabildo of Tenerife reached an institutional agreement to increase the public land allocated for social housing on the island.

In this way, the island institution reaffirms its commitment to the need to guarantee the existence of public land at the disposal of the Government of the Canary Islands for the development of the regional Housing Plan on the island.

From the corporation they detail in a note that the lack of execution over the last few years has caused that in the Canary Islands the ratio of officially protected housing to the total housing stock is less than 2%, compared to 8.5% of the European average.

In the institutional agreement reached this Thursday, all political groups agreed to demand housing “as a fundamental pillar for the development of people and societies”, and taking this into account, it was agreed to “maintain a line of work, led from the area of ​​Municipal Cooperation and Housing, to request the municipalities of the island to respond to the request for transfer to the Government of the Canary Islands of public land intended for the construction of social housing.

The agreement also includes “maintaining a line of collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands for the acquisition of public land to dedicate it to the construction of social housing, as well as urging all administrations responsible for housing to increase the allocation for aid.” to rent, including the signing of an additional state financing commitment to the current PEAV 2022-2025″.

The insular corporation also determined, unanimously, “to increase the budgetary effort in 2024 for the area of ​​Municipal Cooperation and Housing, which allows it to continue developing housing policies” in accordance with social needs.
