SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Pedro de Faria e Castro, representative of the Commission on Territorial Cohesion Policy and Budget of the European Union (EU) and from the Azores archipelago, defended this Wednesday the value of the regions and trusts that the cohesion policy will have “effect” on citizens.
In a videoconference intervention at the ‘Conecta Conference. Canary Islands-Europe’ organized this week by the Parliament of the Canary Islands has said that the EU faces the “great challenge” of achieving economic and social development and through “more participation” of the territories.
Along these lines, he has said that the Canary Islands “is a great asset” for the EU, the same as the rest of the outermost regions and despite some adverse characteristics such as their fragmentation, orography or remoteness, he understands that they have to “participate” in European legislation. .
De Faria has insisted on achieving the development of “all regions” at a time of “disruptions” derived mainly from the invasion of Ukraine and therefore demands “joint work” of the ORs with national governments and European institutions.
Now, through the COTER (Commission on Territorial Cohesion Policy and EU Budget) we are in the middle of the “review” phase of the cohesion funds for the new period that opens from 2027 and must be done in “close collaboration” with the regions and all institutions, and taking into account the principles of sustainable development and achieving the full development of all regions, he noted.
Along these lines, he has defended “subsidiarity” as a “value” in European construction and has highlighted the importance of the ‘Conecta Days’ as an “example of participation and shared experiences” from the territories.
