SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, assured today Tuesday that the autonomous community will fight to incorporate the educational infrastructure plan in the next General State Budget Law and pointed out that this plan, which involved an annual investment of 42 million euros State and another 42 million from the Canarian Executive, “was lost in 2018 with the entry of the current state Government.”

During a visit to the new facilities of the IES Parque La Reina in Arona, the Canarian president stressed that this center “responds to a historic demand from the Southern Region of the Island, from the mothers and fathers who seven years ago demanded that the Government center that today is already a reality”.

Fernando Clavijo stressed during the visit to the new facilities of the educational center, the largest in the Canary Islands and which has opened its doors in the current 2023/2024 academic year, that the educational community and the students of Arona and this region “have equipment at the forefront of education in the Canary Islands.”

Clavijo explained that with an investment of 7,885,885 euros and a constructed area of 9,362 square meters, the IES Parque La Reina responds to a demand that has existed for a long time in the south of Tenerife, an area that has a large population growth. .

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez, also present at the visit, noted that they will continue to “implement measures to improve, as a whole, the educational infrastructures of the entire Canary Islands” because ” “Equipments like this contribute to the improvement of education in the Islands, and to the commitment to equity that this Government defends, to equal opportunities for boys and girls, for our young people, regardless of where they live.”

Likewise, he assured that the Executive will take into account the name change that the School Council will transfer at the next meeting to IES Montaña de Guaza and with which “they want to maintain that tradition and those roots that this center has with its municipality.”

For her part, the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that today finally 800 boys and girls “can study in worthy institutions, privileged after more than twenty years of demands.” Likewise, she agreed on the importance of the Government of the Canary Islands resuming the educational infrastructure plan with the Government of Spain in order to continue advancing infrastructure on the Island.

The mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes, among other authorities and officials from the educational community, was also present during the visit.

ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE REGION

The launch of this new Secondary school is of special importance taking into account the needs of the municipality of Arona. This is a construction that initially had 22 units, but due to the increase in the school-age population warned by the Schooling Service of the Ministry of Education, a modification had to be made in July 2022 to create nine more units, up to a total of 31. Thus, with capacity for 800 students, this 2023/2024 academic year has 740 enrolled.

The new facilities of the IES Parque La Reina extend over an area of 13,120 square meters and consist of a three-story building. It is completed, taking advantage of the unevenness of the land, with a semi-basement that serves as parking and has direct access to the street. Along the same lines, the assembly hall and the covered pavilion, each of them equipped with toilets, have been arranged on the side of the building with direct access from the outside, in such a way that they can be used during after-school hours. without having to enter the school grounds.

The new institute has 53 classrooms, in which students will be able to use computer, music, plastic, library, technology workshop, laboratories, language classroom, administration and common services areas, cafeteria, warehouse, changing rooms. non-teaching staff, supply and cleaning rooms, among others. A covered pavilion, assembly hall, orchard, parking lots, play areas and green areas that will be landscaped little by little complete the facilities of the IES Parque La Reina.
