Every so often, the town of Los Cristianos reunites with itself. These are moments when, like yesterday, it looks back to commemorate its seafaring nature and its origins in artisanal fishing. The demand for that salty flavor is what supports the Fish Fair, organized by the Economic Promotion area of the Arona City Council, with the help of the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Brotherhood.

Thousands of people gathered between the old pier of this town and the Plaza de La Pescadora to attend the different events of this ninth edition, whose most popular, and populous, point was the tasting, on the pier itself, of the tasting. tuna in the style of the fishermen of Los Cristianos.

All of this after the culinary demonstration by chefs Pablo Pastor and Alejandro Bello.

The Councilor for Economic Promotion of the Arona City Council, Dácil León, highlighted the importance that this celebration has acquired over the years. “Today, it is one of the most anticipated festive events among the resident and tourist population.” In his opinion, this success responds “to the fact that the fair has managed to combine tradition, culture and entertainment around fishermen, figures who have always inspired admiration and respect, all in a privileged location linked to fishing and Sea”.

The 2023 edition of this fair was initially scheduled for August 26, but, as Dácil León recalled, the decision was made to postpone it in solidarity with the population that had suffered the consequences of the fire that devastated an important part of the Tenerife mountain in these dates.

In the Plaza de La Pescadora, the Friends of Punta Rasca Folklore Group presented the show “Salitre y Vereda”, designed especially to pay tribute to the fishermen of Arona. Later, at 9:30 p.m., the Troubadours of Cuba took the stage.
