The Tenerife Tram has started the month of September registering a historical maximum of interannual demand in the service after a month of August with a large volume of passengers since in this first week of the month more than 417,000 cancellations have been quantified compared to the 268,000 that were recorded. registered in the same week of 2022, so that there are already more than 20 million passengers this year.
“This is very positive data that makes it clear that citizens are increasingly opting for public transport, in this case the tram,” said Transport Minister Eulalia García in a note, who recalled that she has recently joined one more tram to line 1 that will reinforce the service and provide a greater frequency of trams in service.
“The normal frequency had been 5 minutes, but with the incorporation of the new vehicles, it will be possible to reach approximately 4 and a half minutes of frequency for each stop,” he points out.
Although activity in the metropolitan area decreases in summer, the number of tram users in August has increased compared to last year.
Thus, that month closed with a total of 1,554,703 travelers, a growth of 68.7% compared to August 2022.
In this way, year-on-year demand at the end of August was already close to 20 million, a figure that was finally exceeded in the first week of this month of September.
Likewise, free passes represent around 82% of total cancellations, and 25% of tram users travel using the ten+móvil application.
