SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife has signed an agreement with SEIASA, the State Commercial Society for Agricultural Infrastructure, worth 18 million euros, with the aim of promoting projects that allow the use of regenerated irrigation water in the western region of Tenerife.
The counselor of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, during a meeting with the president of SEIASA, Francisco Rodríguez Mulero, announced that specifically, the initiatives that they intend to launch as a result of this agreement are the irrigation network in the west of Tenerife and the Las Charquetas pond, in the municipality of Guía de Isora.
This agreement with SEIASA has as its fundamental objective “to work on the path of seeking solutions for the water crisis that Tenerife is suffering, after suffering the hottest and driest months in the historical series, through the promotion of water infrastructure, but also to promote actions that allow sustainable use of water resources,” he details in a note.
Valentín González also announces that “to launch these projects, regenerated water from several WWTPs will be used, mainly from the Adeje-Arona WWTP, which will mean a decrease in the current use of groundwater.”
This circumstance, he states, “will allow us to improve water efficiency, since it will mean the recovery of the aquifers, to which is added the fact that the water will arrive with sufficient pressure to the farms, so the installation of pumping equipment”.
