SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, recognized this Tuesday the “unquestionable value” of Vocational Training for the future of the islands during the opening ceremony of the course for the 64,989 vocational training and Baccalaureate students held at the Integrated Training Center Professional César Manrique, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

“We are in a center that is a reference not only in the Canary Islands but in Spain and in the world,” highlighted Fernando Clavijo, who advocated promoting the “talent” of young people to the maximum.

In this regard, he stressed, “today we have centers like this where video games are produced that end up going to compete and be exhibited in Japan and that is not only a result of the talent and effort of the young people from the Canary Islands but also of a teaching staff that is highly involved and a productive environment that is also getting involved.

The vice president of the Government and Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and the Self-Employed, Manuel Domínguez, and the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, Poli Suárez, also participated in the opening ceremony of the 2023/2023 academic year, and toured the 3D Animation and Entrepreneurship classrooms, as well as the ATECA technology center, the Department of Innovation, Quality and Erasmus and the store of the Department of Commerce and Marketing.

Precisely, its innovative nature and high employability have meant that FP has gained weight in education in the Canary Islands in recent years, according to a note from the Ministry.

Thus, of the 65,000 Baccalaureate and Vocational Training students who begin their teaching activity on the islands this Tuesday, 25,944 do so in 1,095 Baccalaureate groups, while the rest, 39,045 (2,378 groups), do so in Basic Vocational Training (2,619 students and 340 groups), Intermediate Level Training Cycles (15,035 and 948) and Higher Level (21,391 students and 1,090 groups), figures that will continue to increase since registration is still open for the places that may have remained vacant (the The extraordinary registration period for Baccalaureate ends on September 25, while that of Vocational Training and the rest of non-compulsory education will end on October 31).

Vice President Manuel Domínguez stressed in this regard that continuing to promote these teachings, in particular the Dual FP, is “one of the strategic objectives for the current legislature”, as evidenced by the creation, even, of a specific vice-counsel for these teachings, which is directed by the expert in the field Francisco Rodríguez Machado.

The FP “can and must contribute to the economic development of the islands, for which it must adapt to the needs of the productive sectors with the most weight in each of them,” added the Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, whose team It has been holding meetings with the local business community in order to bring the training offer closer to society and its companies with the design of a true map of Vocational Training on the islands.

Suárez recalled that, within the framework of the new Vocational Training Law, the Canary Islands is committed to “a flexible model, which reaches all its citizens to promote entrepreneurship and quality employment in the archipelago” and that, to respond to the high social demand, the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports will continue to expand the vocational training offer within the framework of both the Canary Islands Vocational Training Plan and the Canary Islands Dual Training Strategy 2022-2026.

MORE THAN 240,000 TOTAL STUDENTS

The new course also begins today for Baccalaureate for Adults, Adapted Vocational Training Programs, Basic Education for Adults, Elementary and Professional Music Education, Intermediate and Higher Degree Training Cycles in Plastic Arts and Design, Sports Education, Mentor Classrooms, Basic Computer Science and Higher Artistic Education in Music, Design and Dramatic Art.

The students who arrive in the classrooms today join those who did so this Monday, when classes began in some 800 Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary (ESO) centers for 172,615 students and 26,925 teachers, including teachers (11,757) and professors ( 15,168), who, in fact, have been taking up their positions since last September 1.

In total, the Canary Islands will have about 240,000 students this 2023/2024 academic year, according to forecasts from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports.
