The color of the sinuous façade of the Mediterranean Palace hotel marked an entire era in the tourist sector in the south of Tenerife, with an easily recognizable blue in an establishment that reached the five-star category and was an icon of Arona at the end of the 1990s and early 2000s (opened in 1998, making it 35 years old).

Part of the Mare Nostrum Resort accommodation complex, along with the Sir Anthony and the Cleopatra, that color and tone typical of the time have now disappeared to make way for the white that can be seen on the façade of the building, which is located in the so-called golden mile of Playa de las Américas, where the three establishments are or will be subjected to a profound renovation, whose investment, which has not been made public, will be over ninety million euros, which is needed for the facilities to advance the three decades that have elapsed since its opening.

The hotels, in addition to the auditorium they house, were acquired by the Canadian investment fund Brookfield in 2021 for 430 million euros in an operation that also included three other accommodation properties in Spain, two of them in Marbella and one in Barcelona.

After investing 430 million for the four complexes, Brookfield sold only one of them, the Princesa Sofía in Barcelona, for 180 million euros, which reflects the benefits that the transaction as a whole can yield.

In the case of Tenerife South, the planning of the works consisted of the closure of the Mare Nostrum, the most outdated, and the Sir Anthony, to proceed with the opening of the latter at the beginning of summer and the first in September, to close the Cleopatra from that date.

However, sources familiar with the development of the work assured that these will not be completed in September, as is easy to see by just taking a look around the area, and placed the new deadline for the inauguration of this legendary hotel around February. and proceed to close the Cleopatra, all of this after the five-star Sir Anthony reopened in August next to Camisón beach.

In the case of the Cleopatra, the renovation work had been planned from September in order to give time for the renovations of the other two hotels to be completed.

In addition to the three hotels, which total more than 1,000 rooms, Mare Nostrum has the aforementioned Pyramid of Arona, the largest auditorium in Tenerife, and the restaurant with musical performances Hard Rock Café, as well as the Palapa beach club.
