SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA, September 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The current president of the Canary Islands Federation (Fecai), Casimiro Curbelo, has ratified this Wednesday the demand for the State to apply “urgent measures” in the face of the migration crisis, a position that will be included in an institutional declaration together with the Government of Canary Islands and which will be sent to the Government of Spain as well as to the European institutions.

Curbelo insisted that the State must be exposed to the dimension of the migratory phenomenon that affects the Canary Islands as the “southern gateway” to Europe and requested the incorporation of more technical and human resources, both for surveillance and for the care of those who They reach the Canary coasts.

Likewise, attention to unaccompanied minors was put on the table, for which the solidarity of the rest of the autonomous communities was reiterated, Fecai reports in a note.

Likewise, the current president denounced the lack of planning by the State in terms of reception infrastructure and gave as an example the one located in La Gomera that is currently in a situation of “abandonment.”

Regarding fire prevention and extinguishing, Curbelo announced that the councils have agreed to draft a report that includes a diagnosis of the current protocols to implement improvements.

In this sense, he added that it is about determining mechanisms to reduce the response time and the possibilities of activating reinforcement means such as the EMU, without the need to raise the emergency to level 2.

He added that other measures have been analyzed, such as increasing the duration of reinforcement campaigns with the aim of maintaining not only extinction tasks, but also articulating preventive actions throughout the year.

SPEEDING UP THE RENEWAL OF ENERGY SYSTEMS

The councils also urged the Government of Spain to exempt the islands from the administrative procedures that allow the renewal of the generation systems of the islands’ thermal power plants.

According to Curbelo, given the emergency situation that exists regarding the island generation systems, “an immediate response from the State must be achieved to resolve this problem, which is very serious for each of the islands.”

In parallel, the commitment of the island councils to promote renewable energies and the provision of incentives for energy self-consumption in the Canary Islands was reaffirmed.

All these matters were addressed within the extraordinary session of the assembly of this body in which the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, the counselors of Security and Social Welfare, Nieves Lady Barreto and Candelaria Delgado, as well as the counselor of Ecological Transition, Mariano Hernández Zapata.

Also participating were the presidents of Tenerife and Fuerteventura, Rosa Dávila and Lola García respectively, along with the presidents of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, Oswaldo Betancort and Antonio Morales, as well as the vice presidents of La Palma and El Hierro, Juan Ramón Felipe and David Cabrera.
