Clavijo meets this Tuesday with Escrivá to analyze the migratory rebound in the Canary Islands

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, September 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The spokesperson for the Government of the Canary Islands, Alfonso Cabello, announced this Monday that tomorrow, Tuesday, the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, will meet in Madrid with the acting Minister of Migration, Inclusion and Social Security, José Luis Escrivá, to analyze the rebound. immigration in the Canary Islands.

In a press conference to report on the agreements of the Government Council, this meeting was limited to the round of contacts agreed in August together with NGOs, the Ministry of the Interior – there was a videoconference last week with Minister Grande-Marlaska – – and that of Foreign Affairs, pending date.

Cabello has insisted that the Government is “concerned” about the situation because in August more than 2,500 migrants arrived and in the first four days of September about 400 have already accumulated, and all the reports that NGOs convey delve into the economic “instability.” and politics of many West African countries.

Thus, although the central government has warned that “there is no change” in relations with the States, Cabello has stated that “we must be very attentive” to the situation and the ministries cannot be “misled” with their obligations despite the fact that the country is in an interim situation and waiting for an investiture.

For this reason, and given the “worrying data” put forward by NGOs, he commented that the Canarian Government demands “greater transparency” from the State and that is why the exchange of information must be “weekly” given that it is a “very complex” matter. that affects three ministries.

At this Tuesday’s meeting from the Canary Islands, we will insist on how migrants are received and provided with health care, whether the reception resources are sufficient or whether more are needed, giving as an example the situation in El Hierro, where in In August, about 1,000 irregular migrants arrived, something that “distracts” resources for the island itself.

“The Canary Islands need to be informed and participate more actively,” he commented.
