It is one of the new faces of the government led by José Manuel Bermúdez. Although it is your first experience as a politicianassures that he has always liked politics, with which he has been linked since adolescence when he began to actively participate in the neighborhood association of his neighborhood, The Draguillo. He assures that it was at that moment when he began to be aware that to improve the city and the environment in which one lives one must be proactive and work to make things come true and at the same time, their relationship with traditions, culture and festivals.

-He has been in the Carnival as a designer, set designer and competition director. Is it different to be one of the organizers?

“I have been directly linked to the Carnival since 2011, first as a designer for queens and later as a set designer and director of the competitions. I have always felt like one more piece of all those who make this party possible and that is what I will continue to be. For a carnival-goer like me, it is a real pride to be able to have this huge responsibility, which is experienced in a very different way but with the conviction that together we will manage to have a party that lives up to what all carnival-goers expect. they deserve. “I feel incredible excitement.”

-Does knowing the party inside out have advantages when making decisions?

“It is a great advantage, because it gives you the necessary perspective to be able to do it with some security and above all, because knowing the groups and people who make the Carnival possible after having worked with them for so many years, it allows you to know their needs and expectations. However, this also means meeting high expectations, which makes it an incredibly demanding challenge.”

-What would you change about the Chicharrero Carnival?

“The things that work should not be changed too much and in the Carnival everything organized works relatively well, what we should do is improve those things that have weaknesses, which of course, there are. For example, it would be necessary to revitalize the Children’s Arena and create some activity on the street specifically for this audience.”

– Are there possibilities for competitions and galas to be held outdoors again?

“I can tell you that I personally would love it, but we must be aware that the Fairgrounds provide comforts and guarantees that the street does not provide. Even so, at this moment there is no question of returning to the streets, although time will tell. “I think we should think a lot before making a decision like that.”

-You have also been in charge of organizing the May Festival. Are any changes planned for next year?

“For me it has always been a pride to be part of the organization of the May Festival, which are the founding festivals of the city, the most traditional. In recent years we have achieved important evolution, having a very powerful program of events. I think the challenge is to promote the Typical Food Contest and get boys and girls closer to our traditions from a didactic point of view, which leads to their active participation in our most traditional festivals, after all, they are the future of the city’s traditions.”

-Are there a need for more recreational activities all year round?

“Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a capital that can boast of having a very wide range of recreational activities, not only those organized by the Autonomous Organization of Festivals but also those of the Development Society, the Autonomous Organization of Culture, the districts themselves and those of another nature, such as the night opening of the Our Lady of Africa Market, among others.”

-Have you thought of any specific ones for people with special needs?

“I have always considered that events should be adapted to the needs of all people as much as possible. I do not believe that specific events should be held for people with special needs, but that we manage to plan them taking into account their needs so that they can enjoy any show like the rest and the Administration must guarantee accessibility to the extent possible. . I know that the City Council is making a lot of efforts to try to achieve this goal, although there is still a long way to go.”
