The 1-1-2 Canarias Service for Victims of Gender Violence, financed by the Canary Institute for Equality (ICI), registered 1,607 calls in July, 18.42% more than in the same month last year –83 women reported suffering from some disability.

With this month’s sum, there are already 8,535 alerts received in this service in the first 7 months of the year, 12% more than last year.

Statistical analysis reveals that 75% of the aggressors were a partner or ex-partner, 2% a child, and the rest were parents (1.12%), siblings (0.93%), friends (0.87%) or unknown (1.24%).

Regarding the type of violence, 45% of the calls were alerts for physical violence, 40% non-physical violence, 3% violence with sexual assault, the rest were calls for coordination and consultation, according to a note from the Canary Islands Government.

The emergency calls (imminent danger to the victim) were 897 (56% of the total) and the emergency devices of the councils (DEMA) were mobilized on 223 occasions, which forced the shelter of 39 women and 17 daughters and children who should protect themselves from their abuser.

The alerts received also forced the mobilization of 861 police resources and 75 health resources.

42% of the alerts were made by the victim herself, 25% were accidental alerts, 4% by someone in the family, 6% were referred from the 016 telephone, and 3% by the Atenpro surveillance service.

By age, 22 were under 18 (almost twice as many as last year, when 12 were registered); 345 from 18 to 35 years old (278 last year); 411 from 36 to 55 years old (309 last year); 103 from 56 to 75 years old (71 calls the previous year) and 12 calls from women over 76 years old (8 last year).
