SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA, Aug. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –
La Gomera will have the new cruise season with more than 90 calls scheduled for the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024 in the port of San Sebastián de La Gomera.
In a statement, the president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, who valued these figures “which show the consolidation of this tourist segment on the island, becoming a reference and favorite destination for the arrival of these ships.”
Curbelo emphasized the impact that cruise tourism has for the development of the socioeconomic fabric of the island.
“There are hundreds of visitors who arrive every day and constantly to La Gomera and, although they only spend a few hours on the island, during their stay they consume and purchase goods and services in local establishments,” he added in a note.
The cruise season represents an important opportunity for the island to promote tourist spending in local companies and boost the island’s commercial fabric.
For this reason, each year, the Cabildo de La Gomera has carried out various promotion and commercial revitalization actions in coincidence with the main calls of these ships, with the placement of itinerant sales points, the holding of commercial and craft events, and the provision of information stands of ‘Alimentos de La Gomera’.
During the next season, the port of San Sebastián de La Gomera will receive the first calls of the ships Spitsbergen –with a capacity for 335 passengers–, Norwegian Star –with a capacity of more than 2,000 passengers–, and Evrima — a luxury cruise ship with about 300 passengers on board–.
On the occasion of the arrival of these ships, the traditional delivery of metopas will be held, a protocol act that officially welcomes the cruise ships that call on the island for the first time, with the presence of island and local representatives and the crew of the boat.
