The sculpture ‘Mobile’, which is located in the Plaza de la República Dominicana, at the height of the Rambla, between Avenida de Bélgica and Calle San Sebastián, and which belongs to the first exhibition of sculptures in the street of the Autonomous Organization of Culture, this Friday morning has dawned stained with paint. A flaw that will be repaired as soon as possible.

The Councilor for Culture of the Santa Cruz City Council, Santiago Díaz Mejías, has assured that “these acts of vandalism cannot be tolerated towards some sculptures that are part of the cultural heritage of Santa Cruz and of our history”, at the same time that he has indicated that “although it is going to proceed to its repair, which supposes an important disbursement of money from the municipal coffers that, in order to of accounts, it is money contributed by each and every one of the neighbors of this municipality, it is necessary to transfer to the citizens the importance of the conservation and care of our sculptures in the street ”.

The sculpture is called ‘Mobile’, it dates from 1973, and its author is Francisco Sobrino, known worldwide for his exhibitions and works located in public places. He is characterized by using the most diverse industrial materials, from stainless steel to Plexiglas, passing through polyester, and is considered one of the most original creators and sculptors of the 20th century.

He has exhibited, among others, in the following museums: Tate Gallery in London; Tel Aviv Museum; Paris Museum of Contemporary Art; Museum of Modern Art of Ciudad Bolívar, Museum of Sculptures of the Paseo de la Castellana, in Madrid, in New York, etc. All of his work establishes him as one of the most original creators and sculptors of the 20th century.
