The Laguna Government asks residents for “responsible consumption” of water

La Laguna reiterates the need for “responsible water consumption in the municipality.” The situation derived from the forest fire that the Island suffers and the lack of rain this year make it necessary to “generate global awareness of the scarcity of this resource.” It should be remembered that Teidagua, the company that manages the Aguere cycle, already had to cut off the supply last Friday in several nuclei

The City Council, through the Department of Municipal Services, makes an appeal to the public to raise awareness of the need for responsible water consumption and, thus, deal with adverse circumstances. The mayor responsible for the Area, Ángel Hernández, recalls that “the situation prior to this emergency derived from the fire was already complicated by the global situation of drought that is experienced on a planetary scale and also here by the effects derived from climate change, mainly as a consequence the drastic drop in rainfall.

“The forest fire not only led to the rupture of the Aguamansa canal, explains Hernández, but has also led to a significant increase in the island’s demand for water resources for the extinction work carried out by the intervention teams involved in this operation.”

Laguna citizens are called upon to apply a series of simple tips in their day to day that can help reduce the demand for water. For example, taking a five-minute shower a day, instead of a bath, which saves up to 400 liters per week. In the same way, avoiding leaving the tap running while shaving or cleaning your teeth can save you from spending more than 10,000 liters a year.

Other recommendations have to do with the installation of dispensers in household taps, not overwatering private garden areas or resorting to automatic car washes, since these facilities are designed to make efficient use of the resource. .

The La Laguna City Council, faced with this circumstance, has already implemented several mitigation and restriction measures in different sports facilities. Priority is also being given to the use of reclaimed water for works, street cleaning and sewage network cleaning.

background with cuts

The La Laguna City Council already proceeded last Friday to cut off the supply in several town centers due to the rupture of the Aguamansa canal. This incident aggravated the situation of shortage of water storage. The cut, in the afternoon and until nine at night, affected the nuclei of Santa Rosa de Lima, Montaña La Mina, Camino Guillén, Las Mercedes and La Degollada. In short, about 7,700 residents.

From that moment, the Aguere City Council has already established irrigation restrictions in parks and gardens, as well as in sports facilities, in addition to canceling all municipal events of a festive and sports nature scheduled for the weekend.

The Consistory insists on the importance of making responsible use of water, especially in the current situation in which it is found Tenerife with a sharp increase in water demand for firefighting tasks.

Any incident or query can be made through the Teidagua telephone numbers 922 99 00 05 (from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.) and 900 200 563 (24 hours a day).
