Canarian Coalition vindicates the role of women in the primary sector

Bueno considers it “necessary” to value the role of women in the countryside and at sea as “fundamental” for “the development of our society.” It also requests “that the Cabildo implement real measures that allow the presence of women in the work of the field.”

The CC counselor dedicated to the primary sector points out that «The Island Corporation has been working for more than a decade, under the successive mandates of the Canary Coalition, to favor the presence of women in the primary sector ”.

However, Bueno criticizes that “in the last two years we have missed an impulse that encourages this incorporation.” She understands that “for this it is necessary for them to have salaries that allow them to live with dignity and maintain conditions that can facilitate the essential reconciliation of work and family life.”

The insular councilor of CC-PNC highlights «The contribution to the socio-economic development of the Canary Islands and of the Island that women have traditionally made. He also considers that “we must continue working to move towards higher levels of equality.” In this same sense. Bueno demands “a specific plan to translate that equality and dignify our primary sector.”

For the nationalist advisor. Advancing on this path “will not only allow us to generate employment, but, in parallel, increase our food sovereignty and reduce our dependence on abroad.”

Bueno recalls the concept of “food sovereignty” closely related to this initiative to promote female employment in the island countryside. On December 18, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly establishes October 15 as the International Day of Rural Women to recognize rural women “for their contribution to agricultural development and the livestock sector, in addition to the eradication poverty and improved food security.

In the opening statement, the UN calls on member states to improve the condition of rural women, pay attention to their needs, and also to empower them in the social, economic and political spheres.
