The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has reported that the nightly extinction work has been productive. “There have been hard times in the mountains, but it can be said that the worst is over,” she says. However, he remembers that the tenerife fire continues out of control and has already devastated 12,813 hectares in a perimeter of 90 kilometers.

According to the president’s statements on Cadena Ser, the people who set the fire did so in areas of very difficult access where it is very difficult to work. “They provoked it at the moment they knew it would do the most damage and in the place where it was most difficult to turn it off,” he says.

EVOLUTION OF THE NIGHT

The change in the wind made it necessary to work intensively in Izaña during the night, where a significant withdrawal of resources was concentrated to prevent damage to the infrastructure of the Teide Observatory and contain the spread of the flames.

Likewise, last night the fire advanced from Pico Cho Marcial through the municipalities of Fasnia and Arico, so there are already 13 people affected. Even so, none of the secondary outbreaks that have occurred pose a danger to the population.

In the rest of the perimeter, no relevant incidents have been recorded, although the Valley of La Orotava and Güímar woke up covered by an intense cloud of smoke, for which reason it is urged to avoid going outside and wear a mask.

STAFF

The director of 112 Canarias, Moisés Sánchez, explains that today’s objective is to encircle the fire on the northern flank in the La Orotava area to focus the troops on stopping the advance of the southern front.

22 aerial means will be incorporated into daytime work, while the ground device will be made up of 275 firefighters, 115 security and 40 people dedicated to logistics tasks.
