SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will travel this Monday, August 21, to Tenerife due to the forest fire that has affected the island since the night of August 15, sources from the Government Delegation have confirmed to Europa Press in the Canary Islands.

The flames started last Tuesday on the mountain in the municipality of Arafo and according to the latest update on Friday, the fire is currently out of control after having affected an area of 3,797 hectares.

The fire has a perimeter of more than 41.9 kilometers that covers the municipalities of Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, El Sauzal, Tacoronte and La Matanza, affecting the forest mass (pine forest), mostly in the mount of La Esperanza and the forest crown.

In addition, the fire has forced since last Tuesday the preventive evacuation of a total of 4,509 residents and the confinement of 3,820 people, although this Friday it was decided to lift the confinement in the part furthest away from the forest mass of the core of La Esperanza , so there are 1,671 residents in this situation.
