The mayor of La Guancha, from the PP, suspends the festivities and asks the “Virgen de la Esperanza” to “intercede” before the fire

The Town Hall of the Guancha, governed by PP and PSOE, has announced that it is suspending its patron saint festivities due to the fire that Tenerife is experiencing. The decision has been communicated in a post on the official Facebook account of the Consistory in which its mayor, Antonio Hernández (PP), asks the “Virgen de la Esperanza” to “intercede” in the face of the concern that exists on the island .

“Let’s ask our mother, the Virgin of Hope, to intercede in these moments of greatest concern and sadness,” stresses the leader.

The acts that are suspended were scheduled from Thursday afternoon until next Sunday, August 20.

“At this moment the absolute priority is in the fight and extinction of the fire, allocating all the human and material resources available to prevent it from continuing to advance through our mountains,” highlights the statement from the City Council.

The Consistory insists that the suspension of a part of its patron saint festivities is adopted “in solidarity with the municipalities affected by the fire”, and “in order not to hinder the security and emergency work of all those professionals focused exclusively on this terrible catastrophe”.
